Pride & Silent Disco @ Superfly

It’s been a busy few months at Munkie HQ, we’ve been buzzing about all over the midlands performing at some massive clubs.

We’re back home for a little while now but we certainly won’t be doing much resting! On Saturday 4th September we will be taking to the main stage with DJ Marky B to give the closing performance on the main stage.

Then on Thursday 16th September we’re back on the 3rd floor of Superfly for a silent disco going back-to-back with dubstep master DJ Medly.

There’s so much more to announce but we’ve gotta keep it quiet for just a few more weeks, so stay tuned.

Gatecrasher, Life and Stopout

Quebec, home of our Saturday night residency in Leicester has closed down until further notice pending a massive re-fit. After 2 years of residency there, we are sad to see it go.

On the other hand, we have loads of very exciting gigs to announce!

This Saturday we are taking to the stage at Leicesters newest late night party, Stopout at Canvas. We’re looking forward to busting out some dirrrrty electro and fidget for the ravers.

On Thursday 22nd July we will making our debut appearance for LOLLIPOP at Life, Leicester. Drinks are just £1 all night and we’re on the decks from 1am.

Finally, we will be playing alongside AJ Gibson, Dirty Secretz and Subtactix on August 14th at the Gatecrasher Anthems launch party at the Audatorium. This is going to be a massive event, we’ll have more info on it for you in a few weeks. Stay tuned!

Leicester Pride 2010

Last year, we had a lot of fun playing on the DJ stage at Leicester Pride. It was great to see the event return after a couple of years of absence.

This year Leicester Pride is back, returning to it’s original home on Victoria park with even more stalls, fair ground rides and performances throughout the day.

We’re very pleased announce that the Mix Munkies will be teaming up with DJ Marky B (resident from Helsinki) to give the closing performance on the main stage at Leicester Pride 2010.

Being a community event, the committee feels that showcasing local talent and bringing the cities two best known DJ acts together for an all out performance will be the perfect way to re-enforce the message of unity that Leicester Pride stands for.

We are very excited about this and have already started planning our performance with Marky B. More info coming soon!

Ibiza White Party

Summer is officially here! We’ve got a busy line up over the next couple of months, starting with the Ibiza White Party on the 28th May, the sequel to the secret warehouse party in leicester early this year.

2 weeks after that, we’re off to actual Ibiza to soak up the sun and spin a few tunes on the party island.

Finally, June concludes with the Beach Party at Quebec! It’s going to be one of the biggest events of the year for the venue and the perfect way to top of our June adventures.

We’ve also got a string of dates set with Madamme Secrets following their pre-launch party in Birmingham, more info on that coming very soon.

Madame Secrets

Theres a new club night launching in Birmingham on the 8th of May. Madame Secrets is a classy new brand that will be touring the UK and throwing some amazing parties!

We’ll be there to do our bit alongside some the UKs finest DJs (regulars from hed kandi, es paradis, etc). As soon as the website goes live, we’ll have loads more information for you.

Summers almost here!

Today I saw my first clear blue sky of 2010! It’s already got me thinking about Ibiza, beach parties and all the other great stuff that summer brings.

This Friday sees our return to Ciros in Ashby. We haven’t been there since NYE, which was an amazing night. Since then we’ve pretty much developed an entirely new set. I can’t wait to see what they think to is, the Ashby folk love a bit of dirty electro!

We’ve also just confirmed a set at the “Break up, break in” end of term warehouse party in Leicester on the 27th. It’s being hosted in the same venue as the Ministry of Sound warehouse party the week before except it’ll be a 16+ event.

Then to top it all off, we’ll be wrapping the month up with another big theme night at Quebec. This month it’s “Saints & Sinners”, a heaven/hell theme. More on that very soon!

Lisa Lashes and JFK!

On Saturday 16th January, Robbie is DJing alongside Lisa Lashes and JFK at a massive blow out party at Helsinki. Click here to buy tickets online. Its always an amazing night when Lisa plays at Helsinki, she breaks away from her usual material and plays a more housey set that you won’t hear anywhere else.

It’s just two weeks until the Mix Munkies 1st Birthday at Quebec. We’re transforming the club into an indoor jungle and launching our very own cocktail that tastes like parma violets. Keep an eye out for the Facebook event, we’ll be setting it up shortly.

Chrismas & NYE

First of all, apologies to everyone who has been asking for a November CD. We’ve been really busy since we started DJing at R/BAR on Mondays and Thursdays.

This year we’ll be headlining at Ciros, Ashby-de-la-Zouch on Christmas Eve and NYE from 10pm-2am. We’ll be giving away a special NYE CD for one night only as well as playing some of our new material for the very first time.

January 30th 2010 will be the 1 year aniversary of the Mix Munkies. We’re going ot be holding a massive party in Quebec with a Jungle theme, special cocktails, games and competitions. More info on that coming soon.

If you’ve been listening to the radio lately, you’ll have noticed that a lot of the dirty ibiza tunes from the summer are making it into the dance charts (Riverside, Lets the bass kick, etc). It seems that more clubbers than ever are getting down to dirty electro.

Robbie (aka. Dirty Munkie) couldn’t be happier about this! To celebrate, he’s put together a special mix tape of the dirtiest, filthiest tunes from the summer.

We’ll have copies to give away over the next few weeks so if you want one, get down to one of our gigs! Alternatively, you’ll be able to download it from the website in a few days.

Mix Munkies supporting Utah Saints!

On Friday 6th November the world-famous Utah Saints are performing at Ciros in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

We are now resident DJs at Ciros with our own club night every month.

We’ve also got the pleasure of warming up for the Utah Saints, playing a special mix of chilled tunes in the downstairs club room.

If you haven’t caught one of our sets at Ciros yet, your missing out! The crowds are awesome and we love playing to their every request. We’re performing all night this Friday from 10pm until 2am in Studio79 (upstairs).

Mix Munkies come to Ashby

For some time now, Ciros nightclub in Ashby de la Zouch has been getting busier and busier. With queues out the door and people being turned away – the club has decided to take things to the next level. They are re-opening in September with a much larger capacity and a new club style room called Studio79.

Big names including Utah Saints, Aphrodite and DJ Gee will all be playing out from the new venue which features a second floor smoking terrace just 10 feet from the dance floor!

We’ve just confirmed a series of gigs throughout October at the new venue. First we’ll be supporting DJ Ed Real on 9th October and then Andy Whitby on 23rd October. Finally we’ll be headlining our own night on Friday 30th October!

Summer Sundae

Dirty Munkie all night at Quebec

We’ve just had our first weekend off in months and we really needed it! Robbie’s been off in the USA soaking up the sun but we’ve still found the time to crack out a few new remixes for ya.

In August we’ll be DJing downstairs in Quebec on a Saturday night for the first time! As Sam is off on his jollies, Robbie (aka. Dirty Munkie) will be on the decks all night long with an new set of summer tunes.

We’ve also been asked to make a guest appreance on Demon FM in the coming weeks, we’ll let you know as soon as we get a solid date.

June mix, gigs & Leicester Pride

Tonight we’re doing a split shift! We’re DJing at R/BAR from 8pm-12pm and then heading straight over to Quebec to rave until 4am upstairs.

Our next big event will be Leicester Pride 2009. As well as DJing in the Village and Quebec throughout the evening we’re planning to do a set on the outdoor VK bus that will be parked up near the main stage. More info on that coming up.

Hed Kandi competition

Today we entered the Hed Kandi: Live The Dream competition. Basically DJs from across the UK sign up and get their fans to vote and then Hed Kandi will choose one act to become a resident DJ, playing all across Europe!

Needless to say this would be amazing and just about every DJ and their dog have signed up already. We’re not really expecting to win or anything – but getting in the top 10 or 20 would probably get us loads of exposure so please vote for us! Add Mix Munkies to your facebook and then click the Hed Kandi tab to vote.

New website & logo

We’ve finally got the new website up and running. Hope you like the new design and logo. The old Munkie logo just wasn’t bad ass enough, so we’ve had another crack at it.

The gig at R/BAR went really well – we were suprised to see so many of our regulars in there! Thanks for coming down to support us :)

The June CD is going to amazing! I’m finding it really hard to choose which tracks because theres been so many great releases this month. Plus we’ve got another couple of our own remixes for ya. Stay tuned!

In other news, Sam is now the resident DJ at Quebec on Wednesday nights and Robbie will be DJing at Pinki Helsinki this Wednesday.

The Easter weekend was a lot of fun, thanks to everyone who came down. We’re working hard to make the next one even better.

Easter Weekend @ Quebec

The Mix Munkies are taking over Quebec this weekend for an Easter Spectacular! We’ll be doing our usual Alcofrolics night upstairs on Saturday and on Sunday we’ll be DJing DOWNSTAIRS from 12am!

Also on Sunday night we’ll be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt throughout the club. You’ll need to hunt down all of the eggs that we’ve hidden around the club and solve the riddle. The winner will receive a selection of festive prizes ;)

We still have a few copies of the March mixes which we’ll be giving away over the weekend. You can always download our mixes from the website and burn them to disc yourself.

Easter dates

Last night was brilliant! We were still going at 5am – you guys just wouldn’t go home! We wren’t complaining though.

We’ve been asked to it all over again next week for those of you that get paid on Tuesday. We’re also doing Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of April for the Easter weekend! We’ve got some great ideas making those nights extra special too.

Alcofrolics?!

Last weekend (Saturday 28th February) was our busiest night yet. Thanks to everyone who came down to rave with us.

We’ve recieved a lot of good feedback from you guys and many of you have asked that we play more commercial music.

In response to this, we would like to introduce you to our new club night at Quebec.. Alcofrolics.

The night will take place on the second Saturday of every month. We will be playing a lot more pop, r ‘n’ b, dance and funky house as well as decorating the second floor in different themes each month.

For those of you that love bassline and electro, we’ll still be running the usual Mix Munkies events on the last Saturday of every month.

We’d also like to thank Trevor Sewel our resident photographer. Look out for him at future events.

Ok guys it’s official – our next club night at Quebec will be Saturday 28th February 2009. We’ll be upstairs in “The Street” again.

This time we’ll be giving out free copies of our upcoming February Mix CD. We’ve also got a few other ideas in the pipeline which we’ll share with you a bit closer to the time. Until then, stay tuned!

It’s just a week until our first live performance at Quebec and we’re busy getting everything ready for one hell of a club night.

Amidst the excitement, we’ve managed to crack out another mix tape. This mix is much heavier than the last one and features some of our favourite electro & hard house tunes.

To say thanks to all of our supporters we’ll be giving out free copies of this new mix on the night at Quebec. We’re only making 20 discs thoughh so make sure you get there early if you want one!
